Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male (ADAM) is commonly known as Andropause. The male hormone, testosterone or dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) decreases with increasing age. By the mid of 50s, around 30% of the male population experience Andropause.
To determine the testosterone level in the male body, laboratory examination of blood, saliva, etc. is performed. A testosterone replacement therapy is performed depending upon the test results. When the Total Testosterone is less than 200ng/dl or the Bioavailable Testosterone is less than 60ng/dl, then it is considered a hypogonadal syndrome. A Testosterone Replacement Therapy is prescribed when the Testosterone level is low and there are no effective treatments.
The treatment of Andropause is based on Natural Bioidentical Testosterone Replacement. Testosterone can be natural or synthetic. We use natural bioidentical micronized powder approved by United States Pharmacopoeia. It is available in bulk chemicals. Our compounding pharmacists use Testosterone USP in the forms of tablets, transdermal cream or gel, sublingual troches, etc. according to the prescribed dosage. The patient is kept under close observation for proper administration.
